Clint Eastwood says, “America Has Gone Soft”

Clint Eastwood sorely misses his tough youth, insisting America has gone soft since. The 78-year-old actor claims life was simpler and easier in his upbringing during the depression - when problems were solved using fists rather than a therapist’s couch. Eastwood tells the January edition of Esquire magazine, “Everyone’s become used to saying, ‘well, how do we handle it psychologically?’” In those days you punched the bully back and duked it out. People were tougher then.” I was a shy kid. But a lot of my childhood was spent punching the bullies out.”

Why Character Is Everything

That which truly distinguishes one person from another is the force that is called character. Character is more important than achievement. Character affects thoughts decision, words, attitudes, goals, relationships, and actions. As people build character, the outcomes of their lives become more successful. Good character is characterized by the constant striving to make the right choice. A person with true character demonstrates qualities such as: honesty, reliability, diligence, respect and responsibility. In school, a student cooperates in a willing spirit with school regulations concerning attendance, property, and behavior.

The New 3R’s In Education

Respect, Responsibility, and Relationships

The True Basics For All Success In life

Everybody knows what the 3 R's of teaching are - reading, writing, and 'rithmetic.
But educators don't totally understand that in order to teach these basic subjects
successfully, they must constantly be working to develop respect and responsibility
in their students. No longer can it be assumed that children develop these attitudes
at home. Plus, teachers must learn how to build positive relationships with their
students. Strong teacher-student relationships naturally foster a positive and safe
learning environment where much learning will take place and where all students
will become capable, connected, and contributing members of their classrooms.

Jim Burns the author of “The New 3R’s In Education – Respect, Responsibility and Relationships” is scheduling in-services, workshops, conferences, and keynotes for the 2008-09 school year. Jim brings over 30 of experiences as well as practical strategies to help teachers, administrators, and parents teach respect, encourages responsible behavior in their students and explains how to build more positive relationships with their students and children.

Bullying Today

Respect Is The Key To Stopping Bullying Behavior

Educators today are under constant pressure to improve students’ standardized test scores and to improve students’ overall academic performance. If a student’s test scores are not up to snuff or if students have academic difficulty that can’t be explained, often, a principal will find his or her way into the classroom for an observation to try to find something wrong with the teacher’s instructional methods. The question I would like to raise here is: who truly is responsible for a student’s academic performance?

The Ramblings of a Dinosaur

The Lie, The Con, And The Withhold

John Bradshaw the guru of the Adult Children of Alcoholics movement during the 1980’s and 90’s identified in his book Homecoming three different types of liars. He referred to them in three different categories; the outright liar, who will lie when it is just as easy to tell the truth, the con artist, who could sell ice to an Eskimo and make anyone believe just about anything, and the final one is the withholder, who believes that a partial truth is just as good as the whole truth. Bradshaw also went on to say the lying produces future pain, that statement speaks volumes and I couldn’t agree with him more. One of my favorite bible verses is “Beware your sin will find you out,” and it usually does. It usually finds us out at the most inopportune time, usually when we are striving to get something that is the desire of our heart. Lying will usually be discovered when we are in a relationship, because we may try and forget the past, but our past will never forget us. Behavior from the past has a way of being a red flag for those that we allow close to us, and men seem to be more involved with conning and withholding than do women. There is now excuse for it really and lying is a destructive influences in relationships, but it begs the question; why do men lie to women the way they do?
