  1. My daughter has a boy in her class who sat down and wrote a short book titled “The day that ****** died” and listed different ways she would die. I called the principal and had to leave a message –he never called back. I called the next day and he told me he talked to the boy. This principal didnt have the couteousy to call me back. And worst of all he said that the teacher will make sure everything is okay and that my daughter was not allowed to switch to another class–though i constantly told him i was very uncomfortable with her being in the same class. What can i do? You would thing that with all the school killings and guns—he would have LISTENED AND HELPED. What can i do. Im nervous everyday that he might go through with those actions to my daughter.

  2. Was recently asked to mentor two female 9th graders, who both have extensive discipline events. What is the best approach to take and where do I begin?

  3. I teach in a nice Suburban PA school district. My first two years were spent juggling time between the honors classes and the regular classes. Of course, as a teacher, I got much more accomplished with the honors classes and gained quite a reputation among the parents of these young minds.

Then I became an active member of the Union. I got in the way of a few things and one administrator who took a dislike to my vocal nature.

I now teacher a full roster of lower level classes and lost all of my higher level classes and electives. When I asked them about this unfortunate event they responded with “The numbers caused us to switch some of the teachers around.”

Your opinion, was it numbers or was I pushed out because of my problems with ONE vice principal?

PS- I have an article I wrote about teaching. I’d like to have you look it over. You might enjoy it.

  4. What is the number one thing a principal looks for in an applicant when they are interviewing for a teaching position?

Any helpful hints are much appreciated!

  5. If a principal calls me into his office to share with me that the school’s special ed. PSSA scores are the lowest in the district but then states, “I know that your are a good teacher and doing everything that you can. . .” do you really think that he feels that way, or will I be called out on the carpet if the scores do not improve?

  6. What one quality do you look for in a prospective teacher? What would cause you not to hire a candidate, relating to their body posture or body language during an interview?

  7. Mr. Burns,
I tried to email you at the address that you had given us in class- it got sent back- can you give it to me? sorry to place this here

  8. Hi Jim,
I attended a workshop last Thursday 4/24 and had additional questions.
What if a student makes an inappropriate comment in earshot about me or another student, but it is not directed to my face? Should I ignore or address the situtation?
What is your opinion about cell phones and confiscating them? If I have been lax about enforcing rules prohibiting cell phone use, is it too late to start this year? I typically ask students to put them away, but am generally ignored…
Finally, as a principal what qualitites did you look for in a potential teacher candidate?
    Thanks,
    Amy

I was trying to e-mail you at proacted@comcast.net about my project for RTC class (Inclusion) , but it kept bouncing back to me. Is there a better way to reach you? I even tried a verizon.net address. I was thinking about researching Selective Mutism for the final project.
    Thanks, Kathy
