The Laws Are Getting Tougher

The Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act which was passed as law in New Jersey in January 2011 states that the principal in each public school must appoint the currently employed guidance counselor, school psychologist, or another similarly trained individual as the school anti bullying specialist. Does your school have one? Currently employed staff members who may be qualified to take on this new position are already overwhelmed with their current work load and responsibilities.

Bullying Myths

  • Bullying is an Isolated, Individual Aggressive Action – Bullying is not an isolated aggressive action.   In fact, bullying/victimization problems are influenced by peers, families, schools, and communities.
  • Bullying Occurs Between a Bully and a Victim – Bullying is a dynamic social relationship problem and many youth move in and out of various roles.
  • Anti-Bullying Polices are Ineffective – If Anti-Bullying policies are not mandated many school districts do not willingly develop and adopt Anti-Bullying polices which create awareness and lay the foundation for lasting societal change.
